PAH BAH 2021

September 18 and 19

Our annual tradition (which we missed last year due to Covid) of a Pah Bah (almsgiving ceremony) is due to take place this year in White Salmon on September 18 and 19 at the Underwood Community Center, Underwood, WA. This is a time for all supporters of Pacific Hermitage to come together and join in celebrating with and supporting the Pacific Hermitage.

Since the time of the Buddha, Pah Bah celebrations have offered a chance for monastics and lay people to celebrate our interdependence, with monastics offering spiritual support and lay people offering material support.

In addition to the in-person venue, we will be livestreaming the entire two-day event, for those who wish to participate remotely. Please see further details for livestream participation on our website closer to the time of the event. Covid precautions (see below) will be followed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Saturday September 18:

  • 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Meditation retreat

Sunday September 19:

  • 10:30 am Meal Offering (potluck, all welcome)
  • 1:00 pm Pah Bah Offering Ceremony

COVID PRECAUTIONS

COVID-19 seems to be the unrelenting teacher of uncertainty.  Please know, we are taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safest Pah Bah event possible.  Success ultimately relies on all of us who attend to follow the safety protocols.  As it stands, the Pah Bah is an exclusively outdoor event to be held at the Underwood Community Center in Underwood, WA.  The outdoor area is quite extensive with plenty of room to spread out. A large tent (80’X40’) with open sides will house the stage, with plenty of room to accommodate social distancing.  In addition, there will be a covered picnic area.

Other safety protocols include:

  • Vaccination is required for all attendees.
  • The unvaccinated are warmly welcome and invited to participate online, as the entire event will be live streamed.
  • Everyone needs to wear a mask at all times, with the exception of during the meal.
  • Social distancing is a must – please feel free to bring canopies, lawn chairs and blankets to help make it as comfortable for you as possible.

If we do have to cancel the in-person event due to increasing severity of Covid, not all will be lost as we can still participate virtually.  For now, please spread the word that we are planning on an in-person event, but are watching the COVID-19 situation closely. On September 9th, the Sanghata Board will be posting a statement on the Pacific Hermitage site with any further updates.

With much gratitude for all your patience, generosity and kindness!
